Nymphalidae Systematics Group

The subfamily DANAINAE

The subfamily Danainae contains 504 species (according to the latest version of the Classification of Nymphalidae) placed into 60 genera and 3 tribes. Quite often the tribes Danaini and Ithomiini are considered to be subfamilies, with Tellervini being within the ithomiines. The phylogenetic relationships have been studied using both morphological and molecular data. The position of Tellervini with regard to the other two tribes is not entirely clear at the moment.
